Just another award….

The award giving ceremony was held on 23rd February, Saturday at Cititel Hotel, Penang. I took Mahmoud Haddad with me. Joining me at the table were my supervisor, Dr Nasir, my chemistry friend from Somalia, Rashid and a friend from Nigeria. The stage performance was kind of boring but we enjoyed the food. Nice food. Mahmoud he ate a lot…

THE BEST CHEMISTRY POST-GRADUATE STUDENT OF THE YEAR 2007

Study a post-graduate program at USM could probably the best decision I’ve ever made in my professional and personal life. One of the advantages is the study costs probably one of the lowest in the country. Secondly, there are many foreign students in USM – I enjoyed befriend to them especially the Arabs. Learning their cultures and language involving various slangs is something I had been dreaming of for years. This way helps me to enhance my thinking skills since I can actively use both sides of my brain (left brain – logic, scientific + right brain – subjective, holistic).

I always stand with the principles "Work smart is better than work hard" and "Never give up". Actually I didn’t know how hard I work. I slept early at night (average 11pm). But I did wake up early in the morning (average 6am). I always went to lab earlier than the well known "earliest staff" Dr Seng. I always kept my relationship with my superiors, faculty mates and undergraduates in a good way. I also played badminton almost every week for refreshment. Finally all my efforts paid off when I received "The Best Chemistry Post Graduate Student of The Year 2007", awarded by Malaysian Institute of Professional Chemist. It’s no exaggeration to say it was one of the best achievements of my life. Previously, I received Gold Medal at I-TEX 2006 (Kuala Lumpur) and Silver Medal at INNOVA 2007 (Belgium). I published six research papers (two internationals and four locals) during my masters. Furthermore, I have to compete with hardworking Chinese students. It was not easy. Everybody knows that. So I deserved to feel happy with my achievement. Alhamdulillah, this is all from Allah. The most important, whether with or without the award, I’m still me.
